Planning your first visit and what to expect

If it's your first time visiting Total Chi we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes before your class start time.

We are located a few minutes walk from Baker Street tube station.

You can enter the studio via the juice bar. Once inside please make your presence known to a member of the team who will brief you on the check in process and direct you where you need to go.

The changing rooms as well as studios are a no shoe zones so please use the shoe storage areas located in the chill out areas.

Reformer Pilates classes will require that you wear grip socks and comfortable exercise apparel - these can be purchased at the studio.

You will have access to the full use of the changing rooms which include rain showers, complimentary towels, keyless free lockers, a vanity station and Malin +Goetz products. Mats are also provided but feel free to bring your own.

We have a chill out waiting area where you will find a filtered water station, we ask that you wait to be called and allow practising students quiet and privacy.

Please do not bring mobile phones into the studio and if they must remain with you please ensure they have been switched to silent mode.

Ensure that the teacher is made aware prior to the start of any exercise of any injuries or pregnancy (please note that not all classes are suitable).

Please feel free to provide feedback with the staff or complete our online form.

Each teacher will have their own unique style and the following information is intended to provide a brief guideline of what to expect.

You can find examples of what to expect in our demo page.

Arriving more than 10 minutes late may result in your space being given away or entry refused.

Each class is marked with a level and should be interpreted as follows:

Level 1 - suitable for absolute beginners and students wanting to refresh their foundation skills. Although the techniques practiced are basic the exercises may still be challenging.

Level 1.5 - suitable for all levels of students who have attended classes and wish to revisit. We recommend anyone going to an Open level to attend a Level 1 class before.

Level 2 - suitable for students who have a firm grasp of the basics and are familiar with more advanced techniques.

Level 3 - you must be familiar with advanced techniques and maintain a high fitness level.

Reformer

These classes revolve around the use of the reformer Pilates machine. Alongside the resistance springs various apparatus is used to offer a complex variety of exercises. Reformer Pilates classes focus on core strengthening and muscle lengthening. The machine itself supports the body and ensures a safer practice.

Tower Pilates

The Tower is a piece of equipment that converts the reformer into a half Cadillac. In this class a platform is attached and the reformer bed remains stationary. The Tower is host to various springs and other attachments. In addition to core strengthening the tower focusses on strengthening limbs.

Bounce and Burn (Cardio Trampoline)

A trampoline is attached into the base of the reformer designed for low impact cardio workout an ideal class if you're looking to get your sweat on.

Matwork Pilates

A mat-based class incorporating the use of small equipment such as toning circles, stretch bands and balls to keep you challenged. Without the assistance of the reformer you will be required to support your own body weight. Matwork Pilates focuses on stretching and core strengthening.

Yoga

There are many different styles of yoga classes on offer so please read the descriptions careful, these can be found on our schedule.

Typically yoga classes are mat based however some classes are designed to be inclusive of students with impaired mobility and will allow students to practice seated - chair yoga.

Classes may include the use of stretch bands, blocks and bolsters.

Dynamic VS Regular Reformer

Dynamic Pilates combines the traditional reformer moves, pilates principles and the use of non-traditional props such as dumbbells, rings and resistance bands to create a more intense workout to build a lean, toned body. Not for the faint-hearted, Dynamic Reformer is a fitness based class, with high and low impact exercises. The practice flows from one exercise to the next rather than a start-stop approach, where you will hold a position for longer or pulse until the burn is explosive!
